Show FileMaker 6 fields in 7

Featured Replies

What would be the easiest way to import a list of FileMaker 6 field names into FM7? I need to be able to populate a field in FM7 with the field names of an open FileMaker 6 solution. This has to be XPlat smile.gif

Thanks!!

In both versions, in the Design functions section, there is a FieldNames() function. It is layout dependent. So you need to have a layout which has only (or all) the fields you want. You would also need either a global field to put them in, or an unstored calculation field.

As far as getting them to version 7 cross-platform, I expect you'd have to either copy/paste. Or export as a text file, then import. I don't know how you'd tell the other version to do it on a PC.

FMWebschool: Consider purchasing FM Migrator; with this you can import tables and fields from version 6 to version 7.

Thank you Fenton and Transpower. I was trying to make this pretty much seamless, I currently use the "Design Function" to do this with my FileMaker 7 solution, but I need to figure out a way to do this without exporting and importing...It looks like I'll be writing another plug-in smile.gif

Thank you for your help !!!
