Søren Dyhr Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Use this, but be warned that the solution isn't fit for much more than opening as a template to investigate, but prooves unstable!!! http://mac-os-business-tools.flywebs.com/fmp-reverter.html --sd
Lee Smith Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Hi Wallace_HB, and welcome to the Forum. can i convert a file created in version 5 to a version 4??? The file structures that are compatible are 5/6 (extension of .fp5) and 3/4 (extension of .fp3), meaning you can not move files from .fp5 to .fp3, you can of course convert them from .fp3 to .fp5, or fp5 to fp7. With that said, you can export the file as a .dif and open them in v4. This will move Field Names and contents (except containers). After you have moved the data to v4, you will have to fix the scripts, calc fields, etc. Your Container fields will *NOT* export, so you will have to create them and import your pictures, graphics, etc - one at a time AFAIK. And if no anyone know where i can find a free biblioteque of files in version 4?TIA Did you mean: bibliotheque
Lee Smith Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Hi sd, This statement by the aurthor, Paul Bruneau, should be observed closely. "FMP Reverter is a risky way to take a FileMaker Pro 5 file and attempt to revert it to version 3 or 4 format. It may work, but it could also corrupt your data, especially in larger multi-file solutions. If you wish to experiment with it, make sure you have all your files backed up! Some of the possible uses are listed at the creator's web site." HTH Lee
