Committee Membership (A Star Join)

Featured Replies

This subject has come up several times is of interst to me in database I am going to redesign for FMP7.

I have a Family table, an Individual table, a Committee table and an Office table. Family has a one to many relationship with Individual. Individual has a many to many relationship with Committee. Committee has a one to many relationship with Office. I have added a join table Membership, which is related to Individual, Committee and Office, i.e., a star join.

I have left the Family table out of the attached file. The Membership table has fields for the start and end dates of a term of office so that a history can be maintained. The Committee table has a filtered portal to show only the current members.

I hope that others will fine this file useful and would like to get some feedback.

It will take me a while to sort through this, but I can tell you one thing for sure -- I wish you had posted this 13 days ago! This will be a great file for those struggling to understand the various relationships.

I am working on a very similar database and was wondering if there was a way to show committee positions without duplicating the info. I will probably try to incorporate some of this into my database.

Thanks for posting it!
