Making a demo of my runtime

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to FM, and I have just developed a database for a friend who runs a charity (a free language school for kids in Slovakia). At first, it was meant to be a really small thing, because I couldn't watch this friend type all his stuff in an unwieldy Excel spreadheet without feeling sorry for him.

So anyway, I offered to help him out, but things got a little out of hand, and this database app has become much bigger (and better smirk.gif) than I originally thought it would be, just because I got carried away by all the possibilities FM offers.

Now because I did this app for free, and spent a long time on it, I was thinking about selling it to other, non-charity language schools (which are making lots of money here in Slovakia). For that, I'd need a demo version I could freely distribute, but I'd need to limit it in some way, either time-wise or in the number of records that could be used.

Do you have any idea how that could be done? Is it possible to use scripts to do something like that? Or have you any other experience on this question?

Thanks,

Rob

You could set an expiration date so that upon loggin in and running the opener script, the program checks to see if the expiration date has been reached and if so, the program exits.
