I have a script that refers to Go to Layout ["Report"]. It was made for me, and I want to use it again in a different layout. How do I find the layout "Report"? It is listed in the Layout menu on the status bar, but I did not make this layout and have no idea where or how it was made, or how to copy or revise it. Is there a way to find it and edit it?

If I understand your question, you want to put the option of going to layout "report" on a different layout.

If that is case, what do you use to launch the script? A button? Go to layout mode and copy what ever you use and copy it to the new layout.

To find the listed layouts, look in the upper left side of the window and you will see 4 icons. One of those icons will put you in layout.

What might help at this point is the following link:

I go to the old file, select layout mode and copy what? I select the Reports layout and I see the fields, but cannot get any info on them. Selecting database fields just shows me the list of fields in the main layout, and does not seem to identify the ones used by the Reports layout. If I could see them, I could duplicate them in the new file when I select new layout, but I cannot identify the fields used and so I dont know what ones to copy.

Can I click on a field and get info on it? Like what it is, what it does, and so on? I can right click and see field format and field behaviour, and I can use define database to get more info on the filds, but somehow the necessary steps of copying the field parameters is not easy.

In layout mode, I select Layouts, new layout/report and try to set up the same as I had in the old file, but since I cannot identify the fields in the old file or copy them, it is not easy to set up a layout that is a copy of the one I want.

Unless there is a better way, I guess I will have to try to work out what the layout does and try to build one that does the same thing. I know it gives me a report on the gradings by group and by layout. But I live in hope that you can show me a better way..

It is simpler than you think; you just double-click on the field when in Layout mode. If you want a report similar to the one that is there, you could duplicate that layout and rearrange, add fields, etc..

What you need to be aware of in "reports" is the use of Subsummary Parts and Summary Fields. A Subsummary is a part that "groups" and "summarizes" data; so there is only one instance of it, with the summarization (in this case an "average" of a field) of any Summary fields placed in it.

A Subsummary part is defined to "break" on specified field. The records must then be sorted by that field, and the layout viewed in Preview mode (or Printed, which is the same view) in order to see the result.

You will see the Sort used in the Reports script; it's by Group, then Page.*

The Subsummary part "breaks" on the Group field (which is also visible in the part).

The other field is "Audit Grading," which is a Summary type field, the Average of "cComplianceAsNumber"

The final Part is a Trailing Subsummary, which shows the result for Summary fields of the entire found set, in this case the average of the cComplianceAsNumber field for all the records in the found set.

*It is unnecessarily sorting by Page, as there is no Body part to show it, and it is not on the layout. Not an error, just slower.
