I am getting ready to upgrade and migrate to FM7 and sent my server hardware/software requirements (I was planning on using a two machine configuration, server advanced on one and the web publishing core etc. on the other, with windows server 2003) to our network system administrators. They are proposing using VMWare. I searched the techinfo on Filemaker and these forums, but wasn't able to find any information one way or another. Does anyone know if there are any problems doing this? I just want to make sure before we move ahead.

Thank you,

Janey

Issue we are having, with win 2003VMWare

Install Filemaker Server advanced 7, After loading FileMaker Server 7, we are then loading FileMaker Server Advanced 7. When we go through the loading process we get prompted to put in "CD #1". We assumed cd #1 is the Server CD, which we found out that is not what it is. We then put back Server advanced cd and it still prompted for CD #1 ... We were shipped only FileMaker Server 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced... Two cd's in all.. Can somebody shead some light on what we are missing or doing wrong.. the server is Windows 2003 server, we also have VMware loaded on it.

Just curious; what is VMWare? Is it similar to Microsoft's Terminal Services?

Well, instead of having two (or however many) physical systems, you have one (powerful) physical system and use the VMWare software to break it up into multiple virtual servers. (There are also some other uses.) Our Sys Admins are using me as an experiment. I'm supposed to get my server soon so I'll see how it goes.

We are also investigating Virtual Server for cost cutting resoans and advance server 7. We found that its best to have a amd opteron proc and 6 gb of ram.
