stevec Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 (we're still using FM5&6) In a portal, I have a field that may be one line of type, or may take up to several lines. Is there a way to make the field the size of the data entered into it when it prints? (i.e. if the size of the field in the layout allows for 5 lines of type, but sometimes when entered, only takes up one line, is there a way to omit all that extra space) I've been playing around with things, including the sliding/printing features, but can't seem to get this to work WITHIN A PORTAL. Thanks in advance for any input!!
stevec Posted January 12, 2005 Author Posted January 12, 2005 I think I found the answer - printing in list view in the other table instead. I'd still be interested if there's a way to do it in the portal, if anybody has any ideas!!
mattlight Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I'm having a simular issue with this. I think the idea of printing from the line item table is the best but if printing an invoice or something, you need to set up the header and footer to contain the details of the address, invoice number, sub total, total, etc as well. Now, you can easily do a FIND request for all related records and create a nice looking list view with sliding fields, etc but how do you get it to make the header and footer work to make it look like that the list of items have come from a portal within an invoice record? Does this make sense? Someone knows something, somewhere, thanks for your help
mattlight Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 cannot use GLobal fields for the headers and footers because it will probably be a multi user file.
mattlight Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Ah, In the instance that I have mentioned, I can simply use the Client Name, address, invoice number and date from anyone of the records in the found set because they are all the same! The beauty of printing from the actual line item database is that you can sub catagorise and make everything very neat. Also, any invoice total fields, etc are summary fields. Go to view document by going to new window in preview mode and then print - nice! Q U E S T I O N : Because it is an invoice, I have put a field in which is specification/detail which is under the product name on the invoice. Is the sliding objects thing very easy to set up, namely, do I just select the field that I want to reduce or dissappear if it is short or empty or do I select the whole of body text? Thanks
mattlight Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 all done - beautiful! Thanks for your help - all done and looking good!
