if I use the import records script step and chose folder as my "data source" I can no longer select the "import order". Nothing happens. Is this a bug and is there a workaround?

No not bug. You can reference to your pictures in the folder with this method. Your database must contain a container field at least. Your pictures you wanna import must exist in that folder. You must select firs your source folder. Then, you can continue and import.
