Record bar in 'list' view

When viewing the records in list view, a 'current record bar' appears at the side of the record that is current. This moves along side each record as you move up and down.

Is there a way to enhance this record bar, so that it acts like a highlighter across the page, from left to right. So as you move from record to record, it is (more) obvious to the user what record is current.
