Creating records within records

Featured Replies

This is an aspect of filemaker that I've always wanted to know how to do but don't understand how it works...

An example is the "People management" template that ships with FM7. Each record shows the person's name, and then shows several subrecords that show jobs associated with that person.

Can someone give me the basic concepts behind this functionality?

Thanks!

Andrew

These are related records that are shown through a portal. The portal is based on a relationship between the tables. In this example the relatioship is Employee ID. This relationship is setup to allow the creation of related records. When data is entered into the first emply row in the portal FileMaker creates a new record in the related file.

You should invest in a good book like "Using FileMaker 7".
