Newbie question ... why is status area missing?

I'm trying to modify some layouts ... but one is proving difficult because I cannot access the status area. In addition it has a body part. I have been unable to identify why it has a body part (I think it has to do with reports), but other layouts don't and I can't see how to remove it and how to get my status area back. The documentation is not at all helpful about what causes parts to exist in a form.

Warwick, the body area is supposed to be there. That is the main area where you show the records. The header is there and runs the same information accross all the records. But you can only see the difference if your layout is using a list view. As for the status area, you can find that in "View" and down a little is a "Status Area"...

I know that status area is in the View menu but it is disabled. The equivalent icon on the bottom tool bar is also disabled. I was wrong about the other forms not having a body area ... that is not correct. But still I cannot enable the status area. Is there another setting that controls this? This file has recently been converted from FM5.

Yes, it will affect the status area in all modes. To get it back again, create a script with the single step:

ToggleStatusArea(show)

and then run it.

I would just take that script line out that hides it if you are the only one using that file... If you don't want other people messing with it then create two accounts and set one to have Data entry only privilege and then make an administrator for yourself that has full access. This will keep it a little more safe.
