Hello-

I have a database with 3 separate layouts. They are all different sizes so that they can open on top of one another allowing me to see the window/layout behind the active layout.

The problem is that when I click on the script to open a window it RESIZES the main window/layout to the same size as the smaller layout that should remain in front. When this happens, I can no longer see the main layout in back.

Why is it doing this?

Any ideas would be very appreciated...

If you're going to work with multiple windows in Windows OS, all the windows need to be restored, not maximised.

If the windows are maximised, they become un-maximised the moment you open another window.

Thank you for the comments. Let me try to explain the problem a little better.

I use FMP 7 and have a solution with a main layout that I use maximized and as the background. Part of this layout has objects with attached scripts that will launch two other layouts. These additional layouts will open in smaller windows that should appear in front of my main layout- allowing me to still see the main layout behind them.

The problem is when I try to launch these small layouts- the main layout shrinks too! It shrinks to the size of the small layout and is hidden behind it. I then have to close the small layout and maximize the shrunken main layout to return to where I started.

Does anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening?

Any advice would be truly appreciated.

Thank you...

Let me explain the answer a bit better...

In WinOS, either ALL the windows need to be maximised all the time, or NONE of the windows can be maximised. It's one or the other.

As you have discovered, you cannot have a window maximised AND have a little (restored) window floating above it. The maximised window becomes un-maximised (restored).

You need to rethink your design.

In FMP 6 and earlier I design for all windows to be maximised, because the window handing is poor. With FMP 7 the window handling is much better so I design for all windows to be restored (non-maximised).

Thank you very much for your help. Sorry about the earlier misunderstanding- I see what you mean now.

I modified my opening script to avoid the maximized window. Is there a way to get rid of the title bar and scroll bars? I would like to give the main window a "cleaner" look- as if it was maximized.

Thanks in advance for any tips you might have...
