Defining Calculation Fields in 5.5

Featured Replies

  • Newbies

I have updated to version 5.5 from version 5.

Some Calculated Fields do not seem to work the same way.

In version 5 with the Option "Do not evaluate if all referenced fields are empty" SELECTED, the result is DIFFERENT to what happens when I use version 5.5 on the SAME file.

Has any body else experienced this problem?

I have found that the same problem occurs on both Mac and PC

What exactly is the difference you experienced?

The "Difference" is that in Version 5.5 I do NOT get a result to the calculation with the "Do not evaluate if all referenced fields are empty" SELECTED.

Using version 5 I DO get the expected result with "Do not evaluate if all referenced fields are empty" SELECTED.

I have found that, in Version 5.5, by UN-checking the "Do not evaluate if all referenced fields are empty" I get the result expected from version 5.

I am wondering why I am getting the OPPOSITE result!

Let me know if you need more detail.

I believe that Filemaker announced that this was actually a bug in version 5 that has been corrected in 5.5. Apparently, selecting that option never did what it was supposed to do (prevent calculation). So, if you want version 5.5 to work the same way as 5, you have to un-check the option. Err....Did that make sense?

The option worked correctly in FMP4.

Thanks Guys

I missed the fact that it was a bug in version 5!
