When I discovered the powerfully enlarged FM7-search-functionality, I was very happy to now be able to do a search in one table but also use criteria from related tables at the same time.

Yet I discovered a major problem:

I use an extra search-layout with variable-fields. When the user clicks on "Search", a script switches the table to search to search mode and copies all the values from the table with the variables.

That works fine, but when the user enters "*" in a field that is part of a related table, but not the table that displays the results, it takes VERY long time (about 30 seconds) - although the query is in fact really simple and takes 1 second if it

Have you indexed the field in the related table? Should happen automatically with the first search, but worth looking at in Define Fields and see if indexed.
