Newbies CAbes Posted April 13, 2005 Newbies Posted April 13, 2005 I was wondering if anyone has done something along these lines: A user enters the variable data # of rows and # of columns. Click on a button that would create the records and label a text field for each record. For example, the user enters the following: Number of Rows: 12 Number of Columns: 8 96 records are created, with A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,B1,B2,B3,B4,B5,C1,C2,C3,C4,C5 Etc... TIA, Charlie Abrams
QuinTech Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Hi, Charlie, and welcome to the Forums! While re-creating the appearance of a spreadsheet is not difficult in FileMaker, I find it is almost always better to use the product you are trying to emulate instead of emulating it. Can you tell us a little more about what you are trying to do? Maybe someone here will have other methods. Incidentally: Logically speaking, one record in FileMaker equals one row in Excel. So in the example you gave above, you would not have 96 records, you would have 12 records (ROWS), each of which has 8 fields (COLUMNS), giving you a total of 96 CELLS. HTH, Jerry
Lee Smith Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Hi Charlie, and Welcome to the Forums. I agree with Jerry, but I also think you should check out the possibilities in FileMaker too. As you might suspect, this topic has come up before I did a search for [color:"blue"] +"Tab " +Spreadsheet and pulled up this Thread Click Here to Go. If you do a search of [color:"red"] "All Forums" using the [color:"red"] Keywords of [color:"blue"] +"Tab " +Spreadsheet (use the plus sign with the words as shown), and be sure to remove the [color:"blue"] 1 in [color:"red"] Weeks , you will find several other threads on this Topic. Vaughan Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Have you looked at Table view? It was introduced in FMP 5 I think...
