I have a layout that I need to print pictures from: I print 1,2.4.& 6 pictures per page, I used repeting container fields for this. Is the best method of doing this or is there a better way? I read in this forum all the time to avoid repeting fields. So I'm just wondering if there is a better way to accomplish this task?

I would not use repeating fields to store data. I do use them for some display storage. So it depends on what you intend to do with these pictures.

Since you are in FMP7 you could use one row portals starting at different rows.

I'm using them to store a reference only. As far as the pictures go, I print them out but usally only 1 time. Portals seemed like overkill, but I am looking for advice from you advanced developers. However I will never have a reason to search on them.
