Has anyone had a problem with the appearance of pictures in container fields using IWP? I have an image database published on the web using FMP 7.3 and FMP Server 7.3 Advanced. The container field has been formatted with the "keep image proportions" box checked and "reduce image to fit frame" selected. The images are imported using a reference. Pictures are appearing distorted, either squashed (for portrait format) or stretched (for landscape format). I have tried everything I can think of including rebuilding layouts, checking and double checking field formatting, resizing the images, nothing seems to work. Can anyone help please?

I neglected to mention in the earlier post above that everything appears normal when viewing the database off the web. I have just tried importing the images into the database without using the file reference (they are now "embedded" in the database). Although this has solved the immediate problem it is not a solution we can use as some of our image databases will contain thousands of pictures! Also, buttons that have been formatted to appear as "round" appear as square when using IWP. I have an awful feeling these issues may be filemaker 7 bugs. Is anyone able to shed light on these problems?

Can't help you with the first problem but I just read you can only have square buttons in IWP, in the IWP Guide

Round buttons are not supported by IWP. Check out the PDF from FileMaker on IWP and Custom Web Publishing.

I have not gotten IWP with referenced images on the Server to work properly. According to FM Tech Support, in order to get File References to work with images on FM7 using IWP, the database must be setup locally and the images placed in the local Web folder. Then placed on the FM7 Advanced Server under the Web Folder. To date I have not been successful with this, only when embedded.

You need to enter the Size of the image when you save it into the container field.

it Size: 450, 670 for instance.

You may ned to use an applescript of something to extract the image's dimensions.

I use an applescript to laod the image (jpg) into Safari, extract the dimensions then set the string back

into the container with the dimensions.

We spent a bunch of $$ on FM7 Advanced Server to do just that! I've been trying everything, with no success. This is a major screwup from FM. Will call tech support soon to see if there is a solution yet. We're running Advanced Server on Panther Server, not sure if it makes a difference.

If someone gets linked images to work in IWP on FM7 Advanced Server, please let us know how you did it!

Thanks to all for your responses. After many weeks of frustration

with this issue I have come to the conclusion it is a Filmaker bug, one

they will need to fix pretty ******* quickly if they hope to retain our

custom. I have contacted FM support with details of this problem and

after three weeks have had no reponse despite follow ups. Not good. Perhaps someone out there has better access to Filemaker and could report this issue!!

For fful: I managed to get referenced images to appear in container

fields published on the web using IWP by creating a folder to contain both database and images then placing that folder in the Web folder located in the FM7 application folder then doing the image import. I then moved a copy of the folder containing images and database into the Databases folder located in the Data folder that is located in the FM Advanced Server folder that is located in the Library folder. I then moved a copy of the same folder minus the database into the WebServer folder (if you are using Apache) located in the Library folder. An awful lot of farting about if you ask me for a solution that is supposed to be simple and straight forward.

All of the above still does not overcome the original problem of referenced images appearing distorted when using IWP to publish to the web.

Thanks for your tip Southlight, will try it next week.

******* awful way for FM to get the job done! Especially if you have to keep adding images from a remote client, like I do.
