Pop-up list question

Featured Replies

I've just converted a FM4 file to FM7 for testing and some minor modifications before we do a company-wide upgrade.

I'm finding that one of my pop-up lists no longer allows a keyboard shortcut to go to a certain part of the list... i.e., in the pop-up list of about 800 client projects, in FM4 users could type a single letter (or 2 or 3 letters if you're fast enough) and go to that part of the list. In the FM7 converted file, this is no longer working. I have another pop-up list (of employee ids) with only about 40 values, and I can still "go to" in that list with a keystroke, but it's not working in my big list.

I'm wondering if there's a property or setting that I've overlooked on the project list that makes it different than the employee list. I've compared all the properties pretty closely, but I thought someone might have a bit of advice. (Or is it possible my list is just too big to have this function in FM7?)

Hi,

I don't have a solution for you but I have a similar experience that I think is a change in the new version (bug!). I have a pop up list of 1,500 entries from a related file. I use two fields, phone and last name and I have it sort on last name. It used to be that typing the beginning letters of the last name jumped you to that point in the list. Then selecting that person entered their phone number in the field. Perfect.

Now it doesn't work in version 7. But, in my testing if I sort on the first field (phone) it works by typing the first couple of numbers (jumps to that phone number). Obviously, that's not what we want. All of this to get to your situation. Is the list no longer working because you're trying to jump the list based on the second field? I cann't find anything to make it work like it used to.

Good Luck,

Steve

Mine is just one field. It's a value list that pulls all values from a field in a related table. So I'm simply trying to type the first character in the field, and it's not jumping anywhere. It works if I scroll through the list and click on it, but that's not going to make my users happy, of course.

I'm working on a couple of ways to filter data for them to make it a little more user friendly. The more I play with it, the more it seems to be a limitation due to the size of the list. I made another dropdown as part of a filter that lists all client names (a few hundred entries) and I'm able to jump to a particular letter in that list as well.

Select-by-typing works in pop-up lists, but not pop-up menus in 7.

It is a list, not a menu.

The type-ahead feature of value lists was fixed in Filemaker's Updater 7.0v3. Just download the update from the Filemaker website and the feature should work!

Thank you! I should have thought of that. smile.gif
