Do I have to have all my databses.....

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if I have to have all the databases located under the filemaker server folder in order for them to run? I have limited space on the C drive but lots of space on the D drive. I tried to install Filemaker Server in the D drive but it installed on the C Drive. Can I tell Filemaker server to look for the databases in a folder on the D drive or Do I have to run them under the server folder in C?

Thanks

Yes you do have to have all the files you want to host under the FM server directory.

You can install FM Server on the D drive. When you are initially installing the software, there is a place where you can change the default install location. I can't remember exactly where it is, but it's in one of those setup screens.

You'll have to uninstall FM Server first before "reinstalling" it on the D drive. I know there is a problem with Server 5.5 - you have to apply an update patch (available from the FileMaker website) so you can uninstall it. It sounds kinda hokey, but true. I spent about an hour fooling with uninstalling it once just to find out it was a known problem.

Actually, it is possible to have your files in a different location. We have a few clients who do this. You will need to use the following batch file to start FMS and host the files:

C:Program FilesFilemakerFilemaker Server 5.5fmserver start

C:Program FilesFilemakerFilemaker Server 5.5fmserver open D:someOtherDirectory*.fp5
