Newbies Mouse N Around Posted May 4, 2005 Newbies Posted May 4, 2005 I have a database that is being shared by 3 computers over Airport Extreme. File sharing and network printing work fine. The 3 computers are: 01) 20 inch iMac running OS 10.3.9 Panther and Filemaker Pro 7 (FMP7) 02) 17 inch Powerbook running OS 10.4 Tiger and FMP7 (Powerbook 1) 03) New 17 inch Powerbook running OS 10.4 Tiger and FMP7 (Powerbook 2) The iMac is hosting the database. Powerbook 1 has been accessing the database for over a year with no troubles until I upgraded to Tiger over the weekend. Now I can't even see the host in the Open Remote File window. Powerbook 2 is experiencing the same problem. All three computers can connect to each other and make a normal network connection (ie share and transfer files). Now lets experiment :-) ========================= Experiment 1 - Connect computers using Airport Extreme I installed a copy of the database onto Powerbook 2 and set it up for sharing. The iMac connected right to it remotely...no problem. Powerbook 1 will not. This leads me to believe that this is not an issue with Airport Extreme but instead between FMP7 and Tiger even though I can use the database on Tiger (just can't share it). But lets put that to more tests in Experiment 2. ========================= Experiment 2 - Connect computers using an Ethernet Cross Over Cable I connected Powerbook 1 & 2 using Ethernet Crossover cable. Hosted the database on Powerbook 2 could not connect to it from Powerbook 1 (and vise versa). Second I connected Powerbook 1 to the iMac using the Cross Over Cable. Hosting the database on the iMac the Powerbook still can not connect, but when hosting the database on the Powerbook the iMac can connect. I don't think this is an Airport problem. ========================= Conclusion There is none. I still have the same problem I started with. It is probably some setting I have overlooked or it may be a bug between Tiger and FMP7. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
xochi Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Is the problem that the FileMaker "open remote..." browser won't see the database, or that you can't connect at all. Have you tried entering the IP address manually? I've found that sometimes the database is not found on the network, but it's there if you enter the IP address...
Wade Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I have excatly the same problem. I upgraded to Tiger and now I can't see any DB's on my windooze 2000 server using "open remote" The only thing that is saving me is using the "open recent" command How can we fix this... This is not fun arapahoe
Ano Nimus Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Numerous reports out there say that in Tiger SMB is broken. It's probably that, not FMP.
Newbies Mouse N Around Posted May 7, 2005 Author Newbies Posted May 7, 2005 Hi xochi, Yes the "open remote" browser on the Powerbooks would not see the database on the iMac. I have fixed the problem :-) All of my machines were running Filemaker Pro 7v1. When I upgraded both Powerbooks to 7v3 the problem went away. Thanks for the effort ;-)
Newbies Rooster Posted May 12, 2005 Newbies Posted May 12, 2005 Firewall in Tiger can prevent network seeing shared files. Need to go to firewall in System and make a new port, call it what you like, and make sure it is on port 5003. It took me two days to get to the bottom of it!
Newbies gcd Posted May 24, 2005 Newbies Posted May 24, 2005 Yep, I can confirm Rooster's solution. Here's some more info: This also happens to Filemaker Pro 6 after the Tiger upgrade. Even an update from 6 to 7.0v1a and then to 7.0v3 wouldn't work for me! The only solution was to set up a new TCP port 5003. This one was really hard to catch. I wonder what causes it in the first place... Regards, GCD
