Global Fields in FM Server /WIN 2003 Server

I am running a relational database in FM Server 5.5 on a Windows 2003 Server.

Global fields keep reappearing after i have cleared them via a script and closed the file. A relationship then reopens the file and the global field references are back. In the document preferences i have also set to clear global fields on startup and close. has anyone got any ideas?

I have also noticed that the filename when reopened via a relationship is in capitals whereas the true filename is not!

Hi nturrell,

This is how Global fields act in a served environment. They become local to the user when served, but will revert to what was put in them when prior to there being served.

Do a search of the Forum using "Global" and "Server" as your keywords and you should find plenty of past threads on the subject.

Hi, nturrell, and welcome to the Forums!

When a file is closed in a server environment, globals will default back to the values they held when the file was opened for hosting. While the file is open, globals will retain the value last assigned on the workstation (and this may be different for different workstations). So when you clear your globals and then close the file, the globals are set back to the default. You can solve your problem by not closing the file after clearing the globals.

the filename when reopened via a relationship

You have noticed this name where -- in the title bar? It may not matter, depending on where you're seeing it.
