I think this is a question of scripts but I'm not sure.

I have a db that holds information about a companies. I want to create a button/script that allows me to go to a related record (like a subsidiary or a parent company) within that same database/table. this must be easy but i just don't know how...

help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Have you set up the relationship?

You don't need a script to just go to a related record. One of the choices when you create the button is Go to Related record.

but what if the related record is within the same table? i thought relationships were only from a field in one table to a different field in another table...

The relationship can be to the same table but not the same TO.
