Probably a dumb question but here it is anyway...

When you create a text field, you can go to options, then validate, then choose "Member of Value List" so that the entered info in that field must be a member of a certain value list.

Is there a quick way to do this for global fields or will I have to create a script to do the validation for me?

If you create the field as a normal field and set your validation, then convert it to a Global, the validation should still work for the global. This is for versions 5.0 and 5.5 - I don't think it works for older versions.
