Counting prior occurences for a relational value list

Featured Replies

Hello all, I am trying to create a calculation that will find all occurences in the database with the value selected from a relational value list in the NAME field. My problem is getting the calculation to reference the NAME field from all records to tabulate the number of occurences in the TOTAL field. I'm a newbie, so I'm sure this is quite simple but I haven't had to exercise this part of my brain for some time.

Assuming you are using a single database here...Use a global text field(Global_Name) that uses the relational value list. Then create a relationship(NameCount) with Global_Name on the left and Name on the right side of the relationship.

Next define a calculation field(Count), with the result to be a number , as follows:

Count(NameCount::Name)
