Newbies riggers Posted May 15, 2005 Newbies Posted May 15, 2005 You know how in a pop up list it just shows all the unique records for that field - well, how the heck can you export that data ? I've got a database with 1600 records and just 19 unique phrases and I just want to end up with the 19 unique phrases. Cut and paste wont work, exporting the database and re-importing doesn't, I've looked at the script options but can see it there either. Thanks
Lee Smith Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Hi riggers, and Welcome to the Forums. I'm just starting to expore v7, so there may be a better way in v7. In earlier versions, you would need to do something like the file "Get Value List Information" by Bev Voth, click here to go. It is a v5 file, but will cnvert. I will also be following this thread to see if things have changed. HTH Lere
Søren Dyhr Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 But isn't the task to get counts of each phrase?? There is a checkbox in the exports dialog that allow you to group in summaries, this is the fastest method I know of! --sd
Fenton Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Things are much the same in 7. There is another method, which is well-suited for one-off exports, or large lists. Sort by the relevant field, then Export, but check the checkbox next to the field you sorted by in the "Group by" area (above the fields). This is the same as the "Summarize by" in version 6, but it's right there in the same dialog, and more intuitive.
Søren Dyhr Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 But we ought to take the discoveries Bob Weaver made in this thread, into our considerations: http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat...SID=#Post159648 ...and then export the found set, the selfjoin count is there already! --sd
Newbies riggers Posted May 16, 2005 Author Newbies Posted May 16, 2005 Sorted !! Thanks very much for the help. The answer is sort the database by the field you want to summerize, then go to export and tick the relevant field in the group box and export !! I couldn't be easier Thanks again to you all for taking the time to respond - I think i'd better sign up as a paid memeber now !! Best regards Simon
