mgm75 Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 We are having a HUGE issue with FM Server and Server OS 10.3. Here is the setup. We have a G4 server with Server 10.3 and FM server 5 (newest thats not 7) We are running PCs with XP as the clients. Every time the we go into script maker or define fields within a few hours the program slows down and then damages every file. This never happens on a windows server. The answers form FileMaker are "It shouldn't do that" Any ideas.
Kurt Knippel Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Hmm, my recommendation is to NOT run FileMaker Server 5 on OS X...keep it on OS 9.x Lots of problems with it and not much can be done, since it was not designed in the era of OS X. Either that or convert over to FileMaker 7.
Reed Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 If you need to use OS X for other reasons, then you could try going back to 10.2.8. I used 10.2.8 on a G3 with server 5.5v3 for a couple of years with no problems. I know that FMI fixed a lot of problems between OS X and FM Server with the last update. But it's probably not supported with newer versions of OS X. I just found out that Server Advanced v7 is not supported on 10.3.9. I couldn't find official word of this anywhere until I called FMI, and they told me to use 10.3.8 or 10.4.1
stanley Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 MGM75: I've got two clients running FMS 5.5 on OSX and haven't had a problem. Both are running 10.3.8, which I feel is the most stable version of OSX. Make sure you've got the latest update to FMServer - I believe it is v3. When you go into ScriptMaker or Define Fields, which machine are you doing that on? Surely not the server. The other point is to ensure that the folder containing your data files is not accessible to any users via the network. -Stanley
