Insert pdf or image file into layout

Featured Replies

We have a contract form that we want to insert into a layout and then just put the field over the form..the problem is that when printing the image file (photoshop or jpg), it takes ages and does not come in good quality...anyone has any idea on how to do or how to insert this document and keep the quality ???

Many thanx

FileMaker is notoriously uneven when it comes to printing images, so you would be best served by building your own printable layout of the contract form in FileMaker itself. Sure, it's a bummer to type it all in and get the formatting right, but once it is done it will print as expected.

me again ..i probably should be a bit clearer on that..i imported the image file into filemaker in order to place the fields over the form, put the margins to 0 but still it is not accurate....am i missing something?

Ptityop:

I understood that from the beginning; if you want to use the image still, there are a few things to consider:

1. The image should be sized to fit within the margins of the printed page. You do NOT want FileMaker to be doing any resizing, as it will totally distort the image.

2. The image should be high-resolution (and this will depend on your printer). I would say the lowest resolution you should consider would be 300dpi (which old laser printers used to get away with) but more like 600 dpi. This will make for a very large image, and if you're working over a networked system, could create serious bottleneck issues.

3. Lining up your fields over the correct location on the image is going to be a case of hit-or-miss. You'll just have to experiment.

4. Here's the big problem. Even after you've done all that, you will find that your fields will not match the appearance of the rest of the printout. Even if they are the exact same typeface, the exact same size. This is because the two sets of text are being rendered differently. You can't do anything about it, other than to follow my original suggestion (from the earlier post) that you just type the whole thing in.

Good luck
