Disappearing calculation????

I have a field that is a calculation for an inventory #. THe first part is a code taken from a related file (DCXII-1 for example). The second part comes from the current record (edition # 1/25 is turned into 1.25)

so the total calculation is: DCXII-1-1.25

INVENTORY MAIN::Image Inventory Code & "-" & Inventory Number Endcode

The Image Inventory Code automatically pops up in the record - then the rest of the inventory # is completed when the edition # is set. For some reason, when I put the dimensions into the record (a completely unrelated text field, for instance 20"x24") the first part of the calculation disappears. This does not happen when I fill in any other fields. I have checked my calculations for "+" signs instead of "&" etc, etc... and cant figure out why this is doing this!!! Any ideas?

It is formatted as text not as a number so I can't format it to leave as entered, etc... totally confused.

Could you attach a clone or scaled-down version of the file and tell us which table, layout, and field are causing the problem?
