Change field in only one record...not all

Featured Replies

I have a table

First I would suggest that you use a Supplier ID for your key rather than Sipplier Name. Names can change, ID's don't.

You can use a lookup instead of a related field for contact name. You can change the data in one record without changing it in all records.

I'm confused now. I thought what I was doing was a lookup. The contact name is being pulled in from the table Suppliers, which I thought was a lookup.

A field defined to lookup another's data will not affect the related field if its value is changed. It sounds as if you are using the actual related field on your layout and not a field local to the current table set as a lookup of the related field.

If you regularly have more than one contact for a given supplier it might be worth adding in a contact names table with a field to match to suppliers and then select your contact name from a pop-up list once you have chosen the supplier.

OK, now I have it. Thanks for the explanation.

SlimJim,

Thanks for the idea. I might try and incorporate this into the layout.
