gjeih Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I've been having problems with repeating fields (up to 100) displaying in an area only 3 rows deep - although I have selected a vertical scroll bar to be displayed, it doesn't. So I can't add more than three rows...I'm sure this should not be happening. Any thoughts gratefully received. Thanks Gerard
Søren Dyhr Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 You mix up functionality usually associated with portals, by and large shouldn't the values in a repeating field be shown at all, because they are a considered conveniet utility measure for generating OR-keying in a many2many relation. Why?? Today is Filemaker very close to have 10 years aniversery being relational opposed to flatfile databases as such! Relational databases strive as tools to obey these rules: http://www.bkent.net/Doc/simple5.htm --sd
gjeih Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 I think I see what you're saying - that repeating fields are a bit redundant given that we can simply use a different table? I thought that repeating fields would be good for these fields as they are just text items that only get listed once and never used elsewhere... But you're right, I should probably do it properly! Thanks Gerard
gjeih Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Well I've made my repeating fields into their own tables, but now when I add a scroll bar to the portal, the scroll bar is invisible. It works OK, but you just can't see it...am I missing something? Gerard
Søren Dyhr Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Yes the field should be an ordinary field not a repeater, then do you need a field for a foreign key ...in the related table. Pull the portal from the toolbar/status area and let it show the related records with a scrollbar! --sd
