Stripping styled text on paste?

I'm new to the board but I've been using FMP for years, so I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but there's a problem that keeps bugging me and I thought I'd see if anyone else out there knows of a fix...

We keep a database of product information. Information is typically entered manually, as new products come out, by copying and pasting text from web pages into the form layout. The problem is that the text comes in all different sizes and fonts depending on the webpage from which they came. When copying and pasting, the styles are retained regardless of the font assigned to the fields.

This creates a big problem for reports since the layout is designed for a preset font size. Larger fonts get cut off and the report looks like a dog's breakfast instead of a nice clean report.

My only work-around for now is to copy the whole webpage into BBEdit (which strips all styles from the text) and then copy and paste from there into FMP.

We're using FMP 5.5 and I can't find anything within it to solve this problem. Perhaps someone using a newer version can give me this as a reason worth the upgrade?

Cheers

Use the Paste script step and check the Paste without style checkbox. (I don't recall if this feature was available in 5.5. I don't have it installed anywhere any longer. But it is available in 6.)

Hi David,

You can do the same thing Manually on a Mac by including the Option key when you paste, i..e Cmd + Opt + V
