Related fields from parent table not displaying

When I display a related field from the driving (parent) table it does not display upon record creation. I must enter a value into another field before the related field(s) will display, and even this behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes I have to go back to the previous layout and then return to the original layout for the related field to display.

Any ideas?

A little more detail is needed: how is the relationship defined?

Try Committing the record after it is created and related to the parent. Newly-entered information is not part of the file until you commit it.
