In the export dialog, you should be able to select the encoding for the file. You probably want Windows (ANSI), but try the others if that doesn't work.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. The term "french letter" was slang for "condom" in the 1800's, so the title of this thread really caught my eye. Too many jokes.
