Newbies skypilot Posted June 8, 2005 Newbies Posted June 8, 2005 I'm using FMP Dev 7 not so much as a data base, more of a graphical schematic for designing MATV systems. I'm sure there must be a simple way to have the right hand pages print but I can't seem to find a way of doing it. On some records I want to print just the one page on others I might need 5-6 pages to print & the layout for these means I need the right hand pages to print. I'm very new at FMP so I expect the answer is staring me in the face but I just can't see it. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. skypilot
aaa Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 It is not clear what you want to do. What is right hand pages?
stanley Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Skypilot: Welcome to the Forums. Perhaps you mean to print what's to the right of the page break in your layout? FileMaker won't print that - it prints vertically, meaning that you will have to come up with another layout in order to print that data out. -Stanley
Newbies skypilot Posted June 8, 2005 Author Newbies Posted June 8, 2005 Thanks for your prompt reply Stanley. If I can't print the right hand page/s what is the reason for being able to see the pages & why does the scroll arrow work by showing those (approx 8) right hand pages ? Maybe I shall have to submit print right hand pages on my "FMpro wish list" Many thanks again. Tom
Vaughan Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Many printer drivers include the ability to print left- or right-hand (odd or even) pages, so it's not necessarily something that needs to be included in FMP.
stanley Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Skypilot: I'm still not sure what you mean by right-hand pages. In Layout mode you can see the page breaks (the dashed lines), and anything to the right of the page break is off the print layout. In Browse mode, the page breaks mean nothing, so you can scroll anywhere you want. In Preview mode, the page break becomes evident, as you are seeing what will print. Again, if you're talking about items to the right of the page break, they won't print. If, on the other hand, you're talking about odd-numbered pages (the pre-press notion of right-handed pages), then, as Vaughan noted, it is up to your printer driver. -Stanley
Newbies skypilot Posted June 10, 2005 Author Newbies Posted June 10, 2005 I'm calling right sided pages, those that show up in browse mode to the right of the 1st page. In other words I may have a layout that is 2 pages wide & 2 pages long - 4 pages in total. If what you're saying is true I can only print 2 down, not 2 across as well. That seems a shame as my requirements are for a much wider layout than just 1 page. Thanks again. Tom.
BobWeaver Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 You can create a duplicate of your layout, and remove everything from the left side, and slide everything on the right into the printable area. Then you can script your printing to print the original layout and/or the right hand layout.
stanley Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Tom: The trick here is that if you want your browse layout that wide, keep the layout you've got now for browse. Then you can build a second layout which is your print layout, in which you can re-lay the items in exactly how you (and your print driver) want them for printing. In your Browse mode layout, you can put in a button which leads to a script which goes to the print layout, brings up your print dialog, then returns to the original layout. I have a system like that for my invoicing system, as I have a duplex printer, and it prints all sorts of "fine print" type stuff on the back of each sheet... -Stanley
