FM Server hosting remotely via internet

Featured Replies

Is it possible to access FMServ7 hosted files in FM7Pro on a remote connection through the internet?

I have FMServ7Adv running a few DB's and can access them through Instant WebPub, but that's slow and a couple of layouts don't work and only 5 records at a time in list view sucks. So I want to try and access the HOST/FMServer through the internet (i.e. remotely or off site) using a domain name or WAN IP address. Anyone have any knowledge if this is at least possible, or been done successfuly? I already opened and forwarded ports 5003, 50003 (the listening port) to the HOST/Server. I believe 5008 has some use as well, but can't remember.

Am I in the right direction?

It certainly is possible. But if IWP is slow for you then accessing the files themselves with FMP will be just as slow or slower.

Given the vagueries of internet traffic, you will get disconnected from time to time so it's likely you will lose data. Or if you make live structure changes remotely, you may crash your files.

All depends on how fast and reliable your connection is (and the internet connection at the server).

All in all, this kind of connection is multitudes faster than in 6 under the same circumstances.
