I fear I may already know the answer to this question but here goes anyway. Is there any way to format a field in a custom dialog box as a pop up list?

No.

Such custom dialogs are possible with third-party plugins.

Thanks for the short answer. As I am a bit pedantic about consistancy and only need the pop up list in one instance in the current application, I have completely duplicated the custom message box in filemaker. I'll change layouts to the one with my duplicated message box over a dissabled layout to give the same effect. I have attached a copy if it may save anyone needing the same outcome a bit of time. Note that many of the borders are idividually drawn and not grouped in the attachment so select the whole thing.
