Is there a way to give a <<fieldname>> a encoding like we do in CDML <<fieldname,html>>?

Because I want that some numbers in a plane text look like

Merge fields can be formatted just a regular field. Right-click on the text block and select "Number format..." You can format it to display however you like. You can also do the same for Date and Time formats.

Sometimes the answer is so easy, but I could not figure it out.
