disappearing records (sort of)

Ok, our research lab had a database with a total of 217 records. Normally we can scroll through them all in sequence, and the ID# match up to the Record#. All is fine for 193 records. After record 193, the ID# jumps to 210 with the record # being 194. Now there are in fact records with ID# 194-209 - they just aren't showing up when we scroll through our database. We can however search for them specifically by typing in the ID#.

What is even more unusual is that if I close the form and reopen it (not closing/opening the database, just the form) it will sometime "find" the missing records, and all is in order again. All 217 files are in order and accounted for.

I am not sure what has happened to these files. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

-How many times have the files crashed?

This happenes everytime the database is opened. When I refer to the record #, I am refering to the roladex icons over on the left of the form. hope that helps.

Lee was implying (ever so politely) that your database most probably has some nasty, deep-rooted data corruption.

Time to recover the data from the files and import it into clones of known-good backups; or, if you have no known-good backup copies, import into rebuilt-from-scratch copies of the files.

I would not use those files again, ever.
