lynnp08 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Hello, I'm having trouble modifying a database. For some reason when I go to Define fields, I can't delete any fields or change their type. I checked and none of the fields I want to delete are used anywhere and they are not related to any other scripts or anything like that. Any ideas?
Ender Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Is there a message that comes up when you attempt these changes?
lynnp08 Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Nope, no warning message. I just click the button and nothing happens. And if I try to change the field's type, I can't exit out of the Define Fields dialog box until I change it back to its orginal type.
Lee Smith Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Hi and Welcome to the Forum, If I'm understanding you correctly, it may be something simple. When you open the Define Field Box, what button is highlighted? When you select one of the Field, what button is highlighted? Lee
lynnp08 Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Thanks! I think it's good to be here, although being here means I am having a problem! ha ha When I open the Define Field Box, the "Text" button is highlighted. I click on one of my field names (any one of them) and most are defined as text. Then I click the delete button and nothing happens and nothing changes. I tried opening a brand new database and defining a few fields and then deleting them and I'm having the same problem there. So it doesn't seem to be a database specific issue. Maybe a total machine reboot is in order. I have several other web companion "shared" databases open, so maybe I should close them all and a reboot of FileMaker should be first.
lynnp08 Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 A reboot of FileMaker solved the problem. Something must have been wacky somewhere! Thanks to those who tried to help!
