Newbies musicofnote Posted June 26, 2005 Newbies Posted June 26, 2005 Hello Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to change the IP of a FM 7 Server Advanced that is running on a G4 / Panther 10.3.5 client ionstallation. I know how to change the fixed IP of the machin!e, need to know the proceedure for applying this change to FM server Advanced. Thanks in advance!
Wim Decorte Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 There's no setting that needs applying to FMSA. Just change the IP on the machine. There can be issues if there is an embedded IP address in your solution though. Typically it will show as a performance slowdown. Servers usually don't need a change of IP address so question why they would in your case ...
Newbies musicofnote Posted August 25, 2005 Author Newbies Posted August 25, 2005 As a test I cloned the server to another computer, removed the original server from the network and fired up the clone. As I feared, the clone did not work - Server Advanced lost the connection to the DB and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to re-instate it. This is an issue we had when we set up the blasted thing (in comparison, setting up Server 5.5 was a breeze), so that we in the end had to call in a consultant who explained that the process is not clearly explained in the instructions - which I too found to be the case. Also the Server Admin Program refused to let me into the Server. Right after the licence info came up, it folded up. So I was not able to complete the experiment with changinmg the IP on a clone. Now as to the reason why. At the school they are splitting the network into STAFF and STUDENT networks, desolving the current IP-ranges and assigning new ones. In two weeks I've got to get this going again. The Filemaker Server is also the Retrospect Server which has a much higher load than what we need Filemaker for. I fear I'm going to have to install the Server/Server Advanced for the Web side onto our Student File Server (we only need the web DBs a total of 3 weeks of the year for our Course sign-up and Quality Management). I will then use the present Server/Server Advanced solution without the Server Advanced for our house internal DBs which will run in the STAFF network. So now I need the following if anyone could be so kind as to help: 1) A bullet-proof step-by-step on how to get Server/Server Advanced up nd running on the web under Tiger Server 10.4.2 2) A bullet-proof step-by-step on how to deactivate Server Advanced and change the IP. OR 3) point me to a site with instructions for the Filemaker Server / Server Advanced challanged. thanks in advance.
Newbies musicofnote Posted August 26, 2005 Author Newbies Posted August 26, 2005 OK - never mind. I set up a new box with 10.4.2, installed FM Pro Server 7.01, updated to 7.03, installed Server Advance 7.01, updated to 7.03 and got everything going. Much to my surprise.
