Newbies Peter Durant Posted February 4, 2002 Newbies Posted February 4, 2002 I am a basic user of filemaker and now wish to automate procedures with data checks in calculations and scripts e.g. if the data in this field is the same as in this field procede to the next record in this set etc. When this hapens I want to increase a counter and do lots of other things too. My dificulty is not understanding how many of those functions listed on the RHS of the calculation window actualy work. Can anyone point me towards a publication which addresses their usages with examples. Or possibly send me examples and the most common ones. Trial and error has got me thus far but now I know I need some assistance. Many thanks
Vaughan Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 The On-line FMP Help explains all the calculations and functions, gives syntax etc but does not always give examples. Other books may help.
Vaughan Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 Ooops, I mean "on-line" as in the electronic help included with the program. Go the the Help menu, choose "Contents and Index" and search for "functions." Alternatively, use the pdf versions of the reference. It's on the instal CD.
danjacoby Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 "As a last resort, read the instructions." Gee, what a concept.
droosan Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 Chapter 11 - Functions and Formulas of the Users Guide (at least in FMP5.5) might be a good place to start.
