Both Troi and 24U have an Auto Update example file with all the necessary scripts and error checking. They're free so go ahead and test with those.

There is also a white paper on using the feature on the FMI web site. The crucial part is in setting up the folder structure in the AutoUpdate folder on the server. Took me a couple of tries to get it right.
