Newbies vjl Posted July 19, 2005 Newbies Posted July 19, 2005 Hi all, We're running an FM Server 5.5 under Windows 2000. I understand that keeping "windows file sharing" turned off is a big time requirement. Coming from a UNIX background, I would like to install cygwin so that I can run an sshd server on the Windows 2000 box so I can make backups from a UNIX-based backup server [currently the FM Server is making local backups to a separate directory on the same PC via the FM backup function]. I would like to know if installing sshd is considered 'safe' since to FileMaker Server. I assume so, but I wanted to check with the wizards here first. Thanks, /vjl/
Wim Decorte Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 "safe" can not easily be qualified. Any additional task you put on the server increases the risk of something going wrong. Why not allow a samba share on your Unix server and use a batch file/vbscript to push the FMS backups from the FMS machine to the Unix server so you can use the Unix backup from there.
