Getting FMS and FMP to talk

Featured Replies

Hi

As far as I know, I have FM server 7 installed and configured. I have my solution file in place and opened according to the server admin utility.

On the same network, I have clients running FMP7. When I go to open remote, I get nothing listed in local hosts. I tried to specify the IP, but it does not show any files listed.

I can ping the server IP from a client machine.

I dont know why FMP and the server won't talk. My ONLY guess is that the firewall is blocking the port, but it seems unlikely since the server and clients are on the same local internal network. I can also host files using FMP on one of the client machines. All of the other PC's can see the hosted file using this method, but not from the server which is sitting right next to the PC I tried hosting with.

Any ideas?

what OS is this. Each OS has a software firewall that can be turned on. That may be the case here.

Turn it off if you have good perimeter defences on the network, otherwise open port 5003 on the server.

The server is Windows 2000.

The client machines are all windows Xp pro. I am currently hosting my file by sharing from Filemaker Pro on one of the client XP machines, and all of the other XP machines can see it fine.

When hosting with FM server, I get nothing.

I can connect to the server using FM server admin remotely, and when I log in, it shows my file open and normal. However, if I try to connect remotely to the server using FMP, I get nothing.
