We are using FM Server 5.5 and are trying to set up remote access to our server for 8 different users (offices), each with limited access.

We want all offices to see all records, but edit only records from their office. Easy enough, right? We set up a separate password for each office where the access to edit records is limited by the value in the 'Office' field (which contains the name of each of our 8 users).

This setup seems to work--I can login with a user password, browse all records and edit only those records that belong to that user. It works for me locally, and remotely from my home computer.

HOWEVER, when my 8 users try to get access, they are only able to browse--they cannot edit any records ('this field is not modifiable'). If they create a record (or import one) they can edit that record until the file is closed and reoponed, at which they again have no access.

The group settings are correct and allow access to the layout that needs to be edited--and like I said, I have no problems using the user passwords as designed, but my users cannot.

One further complication...the users are in Eastern Europe and maybe there is some conflict because of that. We tried setting up access priveleges that limited access by number values instead of text strings, but still to no avail!

HELP!

I'm taking a shot in the dark here, but is there any chance that you have a global involved in the special permissions?
