Users want to edit records in a read only table. I've toyed with the idea of creating a copy of the record in a different table that they can then edit, pass it back to me for correctness and submission back into the original table, but not sure how. Really not sure if this is the best solution. Has anyone solved this issue in a different manner?

It seems that you want to be in control of what has been editted before it is entered? Maybe you can limit edit-mistakes by using valuelists, calculations with the proper function, authorisation options etc. Than you wouldnt have to check.

OK, the issue here is that users want to do something their role doesn't allow. By definition "Read-Only' does not include editing capabilities.

Maybe you should go back and look at the roles users are going to need to play and design the Privilege Sets to accommodate that.
