Cant open database file

Featured Replies

Our server was accidently shut down improperly a couple of weeks ago. I have recovered the damaged files, however there is one database file which wants to open however... i just get the spinning wheel of death and nothing happens to the point that i have to forcequit FMpro5.5.

Max G5 OSx 3.3 FMPro 5.5/Server 5.5

The file was working fine before the crash and backed up versions of the same file are acting the same way.

Unfortunately, it is possible that the file was running corrupted, and got backed up that way. The crash may have been the final blow.

a few suggestions:

1. Try running the file locally (not server)

2. try opening the file locally on windows

3. the wheel of death could be due to a missing or corrupted related file. Try opening a full backup set of files.

well I isolated the file that wouldnt open and it works..however it is asking for the related files now. soo should i redefine the relationships and replace the file?

Hi, z! I think Vaughan recommends keeping empty shells of your databases which work perfectly. Data can always be re-imported but backups could work yet be corrupted. That way if anything ever goes wrong, you can just export your latest data into copies of the 'clean' originals and be confident that you are fully restored without any unbeknownst problems still lurking about.
