Newbies Jennie Posted April 12, 2002 Newbies Posted April 12, 2002 I think this may be a stupid (or at least simplistic) question, but here goes: I'm trying to create a calculation (I think) to keep a running total (of publications requested, if that matters). So I have a field that I would be inputting into, called "Requested". And I have field called "Total". Basically, I was trying to set up the "Total" field as a calculation (in Define Fields); the calculation I put in was Total + Requested, but I get a message telling me that I can't do that because it would create a circular reference (shades of Excel!). I figure this is either something that I really can't do, or I'm missing something verrry basic (I'm a bit new at this, if you couldn't tell). What to do?
JPaul Posted April 12, 2002 Posted April 12, 2002 Hi Jennie, sipmly use a third field in which store the calc. A field cannot involve himself in a calc. (as you noted in Excel). HTH Regards
