I have not worked hand on with FileMaker until this week. This is our situation. We had a developer create a program in FM that our Mail dept uses to make mailing lists. They really like it, but they are currenlty entering in all mailing info by hand. We are now working with the Central IT department, and have come up with a way of trying to end the manual entry. Once a week the Oracle running on the Mainframe will spit out a CSV file with the information. This is where I need some help, and I do not have any FM experience. How can I map that data into FM? Also with this solution, we want to come up with a simple way for our end user to do the import without us having to be present. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forums!

Take a close look at FileMaker's Import, it will do just what you need. Imports can be scripted to automate the process of assigning the values to the right fields.

CSV for mailing lists? Addresses can have commas in them, it may be easier if your IT provides a tab separated list instead.

Also: if updated lists contain all names each time, you'll need to handle duplicates.

The CSV format can handle embedded commas without any problems.
