clifford Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Hi, Does anyone know how I can share the content (excel, word files, etc) inside a container with more than one user? I notice if more than one user try to open, say, an excel file inside a container, the second user would get a message saying it's used by another user. This would defeat the purpose of sharing information, which I find a critical shortcoming in fmp.
IdealData Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Is the message coming from the excel/word application ? Of course they would complain as you've now tried to open the same file, much as though you were editing the same record in FMP.
clifford Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 (edited) No, the message came from fmp itself, saying another user is using the file. I would expect fmp would allow one user to edit the container content while other users could still open the content in read only mode, which is what one would get when two users open an excel file using excel itself. At the moment, all I could do is to add a button with a script to export the file content in the container and use the "automatically open file" option in fmp8. This way multiple users can view the same file at the same time. The problem with this work around is that any change in the file content won't be reflected in the original file since the updated file is saved in the exported file.
